i have no idea if this is a meme or just something she felt like doing, but i like the sound of it, so...

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1) I make no guarantees that you will like what I make;
2) It'll be done this year;
3) You have no clue what it's going to be. It could be anything; jewelry, a poem, a contract, a mix CD, a photograph... anything, really; and
4) I reserve the right to make something extremely odd.

all spots taken, yay!

i'm preparing a sales post and i'm back and forth about this skirt.  i got it from ITS last year.  if i keep it, i'll be buying more of the fabric and making it into a jsk.  the print is cute, but skirts just don't work on me (and it's a bit too big in the waist which doesn't help).

(click it if you need to see it larger)

or should i sell it and move on to something else?  especially given that i already have a dress i made with a fairly similar print (on the right, below -- animals instead of red riding hood, but the colors are so close)?

my mom just called me from the detroit airport -- she is back in the states from her trip to china & japan.  she says, re: japan "you really need to go there. it's very clean and everybody dresses like you, with their little outfits."  i am not sure what that means, but i will take it as a compliment (and totally bring it up the next time she complains about how i'm dressed).

work email is down so i have some free time to check lj :D

so, last week i hurt my back again.  not as seriously as before, so i could move around and was just stiff/in pain for most of a day, until i could get my hands on some muscle relaxers.  my doctor prescribed me a different kind, and they are really making me extra tired and extra spaced out.  as a result, my consumption of sugar and caffeine (coffee especially, which i had sworn off in favor of tea) has increased hugely, and i have this gross taste in my mouth all the time (which might be the medicine, and might be the sugar/coffee).  without the caffeine i'm too sleepy and foggy to function :(  at least my insomnia seems to be in check for the moment, so i am sleeping through the night, thank goodness.

i think the back thing is because i have been so busy lately that i'm slacking on the gym.  and since the last back problem, i had been doing a lot of stretching before and after working out.  skipping the gym meant no stretching.  so i really just need to stretch a couple times a day, no matter what.  (and get back in the gym habit again.  all this sugar and caffeine is also making my jeans tight.)

speaking of jeans, i got black winter boots that are warm and comfortable!  i would really like to wear skirts and dresses almost every day, and the boots were one thing holding me back.  (i have black boots that are neither warm nor comfortable, and some vaguely olive-green/brown boots that are both, but i can't stand mixing black with brown.)

they actually look really cute in brown also -- perhaps i can squeeze them into the budget at some point. (the only reason i had room in the budget for these was that i unearthed a dept store credit card i'd forgotten about.  and since they free up a lot of wardrobe pieces i already have, i felt the expense was justifiable.)

i need to make a sew_loli post, maybe later tonight when i get home from printing.  i'm about halfway done with my halloween tea dress, and i might be able to cobble a fairy costume out of things already in my closet (i bought wings and fabric to make a dress, but the fabric is some glittery shiny silky nonsense that is not agreeing with my sewing machine) or else i'm doing red riding hood lolita (hey, it's no less original than a fairy costume) and calling it a day :p

first of all, some of my pigeon prints are posted on the lill street textiles blog today. (that's where i take silkscreen classes.) those were just experiments and not the semi-border print yardage i was working on but as experiments go, i thinkthey turned out well, so i may make some later for pillows.

speaking of pillows, qylaar (james & i) have 3 craft fairs coming up.  (which on top of halloween* and it being the busiest time of the year at work, is why i have not been online as much.)

diy trunkshow (chicago) 11/21
art vs. craft (milwaukee) 11/28
renegade craft holiday (chicago) 12/5 + 12/6

if you are in either of those places on those dates, feel free to stop by!  there should be lots of cool vendors at all three fairs.  i linked the websites of each which should have location/hours/directions whatevs.

*still haven't finished either my tea party outfit or my costume, eep.

i've narrowed halloween down to two options.  both are basically a short lolita dress with an underbust corset.  i was thinking of doing a harlequin thing (i have black and white diamond print fabric, if i am going to buy a corset i should get a useful color like black, i have plenty of accessories that would go with it so the corset would be the only thing i would have to buy) but it's a clown really.  and i don't like clowns.  and with the glasses i can't have the cute little domino mask (and there's no way i'm doing anything even slightly clownish on my face, make-up-wise.)  and maybe my roly-poly self is not flattered by so much pattern.

the other option is a fairy.  which is not the most original idea in the world, but really i just want to look pretty and maybe kinda sparkly, and every time i look at the current egl banner it makes me want to basically dress up like that.  i could put a ton of flowers in my hair (which could be my real hair all frizzed out, or a wig since i have a few) and i could still use some fabric and accessories i already have, but i'd have to buy more fabric, and i'd be getting a non-black corset (they have a burgundy velvet one on timeless trends that has been tempting me) which is not very practical.  so i'd have to spend a little more money (fabric, wings, possibly a petticoat?  since it's not black and white, i don't necessarily have matching accessories).  also i'd want a crown -- i suppose it's less trite if i'm titania and not just a random fairy XD  i feel like the chance of looking stupid is lessened.  even though fairies don't wear glasses, oops.

harlequin is cheap and simple.  fairy is more interesting, but also a bit expensive and i'm trying really hard to be better about my budget.  (err..., speaking of that, just ignore the fact that in both options i'm buying a corset)  opinions plz?

i'm finally getting around to archiving the files from my old geocities site (since they are closing on the 26th) and some of this crap is 13 years old.

- i know it's a year away, but i'm curious to see how much of my friendslist was planning to go to dragon con 2010? (not counting the people who are obviously going because they go every year)

- are any of the lolitas out there particularly interested in the concept of a lolita dress or skirt with pigeons silkscreened on it?

i went to a small meetup saturday at the peggy notebaert nature museum, because it was free museum day, and of the small selection of avaiable free museums that i could easily get to, that seemed the most interesting.  i was thinking, you know... flowers... bugs... i knew they had a butterfly haven...  but somehow i forgot that since animals are part of nature, the museum would be full of...

TAXIDERMY.

so that part was not fun for me, since as i'm sure most of the people who read this know, i've got a taxidermy phobia (also statues, and there were a couple of those too).  aside from that, and the fact that i got separated from the group for a while (because i went back to talk to the owner of cooper the photographer cat about his cat's pictures) it was a good time.  also i did not get shat upon by geese, though other members of the party were not so lucky.

photos of the day are here.

in other news, i started a couple dresses (which i am about to go post about in sew_loli), even though i have about 3 already started (but they all seem too summery, now that it's getting chilly).  i still have no idea what i'm wearing to the halloween tea, or what to do for a halloween costume (i lost interest in the snow queen at some point, because i don't think i have the time or budget to do it justice right now).

ok, sometimes i love being a fabric hoarder.  i have been stressing about having enough yardage to print in my silkscreen class, and i just went through my "things to make into skirts or dresses" bin and my "i love this but i don't have enough for a skirt or dress and/or wearing this out in the street would scare people so i guess i'm making a pillow out of it or something" bin and i have found enough things that i feel a bit calmer.  i still should buy a few yards of kona or something but i shouldn't have to spend too much.  i still need to buy at least 2 dresses worth of fancy fabrics to print on (a velvet, and another sateen or taffeta or something) because i want to make some things inspired by juliette et justine.  i'm also going to go to vogue and hopefully find some cheap bottomweight stuff.  pretend that in these next two sentences i give lots of detail about the images i'm planning to print.  because i wrote a whole bunch of stuff and then deleted it because i'm overthinking, and i need to shut up and go to bed, and i don't want to jinx any of the stuff i'm excited about before i print it.

today's complaint about that bbq u guy (i don't have an excuse, i even know where the remote is right now) is that his blooper reel that plays under the credits is not funny enough to warrant being a blooper reel.  one's inability to say "rice wine vinegar" should be an easy chuckle at one's own expense, right?
